Building Acoustic Testing System for Space Acoustic Evaluation & Construction Acceptance

Modern building design, construction acceptance and acoustic renovation projects attach great importance to acoustic comfort. For spaces such as school classrooms, hospital wards, hotel guest rooms, office meeting rooms, theatres and sports halls, there are specified requirements for reverberation time, airborne sound insulation, floor impact sound and background noise. Subjective listening cannot quantify acoustic parameters effectively and may not support engineering acceptance or design optimisation. The building acoustic testing system integrates sound sources, microphones, data acquisition and analysis modules. It can carry out acoustic measurements for building components and indoor spaces both in laboratories and on construction sites, collect acoustic field data and produce traceable test records. It assists design firms, testing laboratories and engineering teams to evaluate acoustic schemes, locate weak insulation areas and verify acoustic performance after construction.

For a newly built school project in China, the system was deployed at the completion stage to measure reverberation time and background noise in every classroom. The measured data helped the project team identify rooms with longer reverberation, adjust the coverage of wall absorption materials and improve speech intelligibility to meet relevant specifications. For hotel guest rooms within a commercial complex, engineers used the building acoustic testing system to check sound insulation of partition walls and floor slabs. The system helped find sound leakage at pipe openings and wall joints, so construction teams improved sealing details and reduced noise transmission between adjacent rooms. During acoustic renovation of a large multi-purpose hall, the team captured original acoustic data with the system and compared test outcomes of different absorption structures to select suitable acoustic materials. After renovation, on-site re-measurement was performed to confirm reverberation performance fits the dual usage for conferences and performances. The system supports both laboratory component tests and on-site building surveys. It can perform measurements complying with local and international building acoustic standards. Recorded data can be stored and compared, lowering bias caused by subjective judgement and offering reliable references for acoustic design optimisation and project handover.
